Special: The Master Cutter vs. Sigabo – in TV Ratings and in Ad Loads (Special Report)

In late-June 2026, Philippine Primetime TV made a major change when Coco Martin’s Sigabo premiered on Kapamilya Channel, ALLTV2, A2Z, and TV5, on the 22nd, followed by GMA’s move to air The Master Cutter on the same timeslot on GTV at 20:00, and the simultaneous airing on two of the network’s digital terrestrial channels, Heart of Asia and I Heart Movies, on the 29th.

While Coco Martin’s Sigabo made a good start in concurrent online viewership on the Kapamilya Online Live streaming of over 400,000 in the first four days since it premiered, the TV Ratings from Nielsen NUTAM report and the Ad Loads from the DRPS PHCA TV Ad Listings against The Master Cutter had judged the competition further, when the Kapuso primetime show headlined by Dingdong Dantes began airing on four GMA channels and later won in the race in TV Ratings against the Kapamilya show.

Klarong-klaro ang panalo sa alas-otso! That was what GMA Drama said in a social media post about an artcard featuring the TV Ratings of The Master Cutter against Coco Martin’s Sigabo, according to data from the Nielsen Philippines’ Television Audience Measurement, on a preliminary-overnight basis, where the Dingdong Dantes-starred show scored a 9.5% to 9.7% rating against Sigabo’s 8.0% to 8.7%, with the episode aired on July 1, 2026, got a 10.5% rating against 8.3%.

The rating was from the period from June 29, 2026, to July 3, 2026, where it is a combined rating of the four GMA channels, two of which are the main channels, GMA and GTV; and the other two are from their digital terrestrial channels, Heart of Asia and I Heart Movies. The competitor, Sigabo, was based on the same combined rating of four different channels – Kapamilya Channel, ALLTV2, A2Z, and the returning broadcast partner TV5.

In the past, GMA Network competed with ABS-CBN’s shows through the airing of their primetime shows on multiple channels on their DTT Network, including GTV (same or delayed airing), Heart of Asia, I Heart Movies, and Pinoy Hits, which ended its operations in September 2024 (alongside Hallypop). Following the return of Coco Martin through Sigabo, and while GMA continued to beat its ratings when The Master Cutter aired on two channels, the network decided to intensify the competition by airing the show on Heart of Asia and I Heart Movies last June 29, 2026.

Ad Loads from the DRPS PHCA TV Ad Listings

Since March 2026, the DRPS PHCA TV Ad Listings have done an ad load count between Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, both of which aired their respective finale episodes on March 13, 2026, and May 8, 2026. The Master Cutter premiered on May 11, 2026, on GMA and GTV.

When The Master Cutter began airing on four GMA channels on June 29, 2026, a week after Coco Martin’s Sigabo premiered, and with what GMA Network decided to do so on that date to intensify its game in TV Ratings, the DRPS PHCA TV Ad Listings decided to include GTV, Heart of Asia, and I Heart Movies as the basis for The Master Cutter, alongside GMA.

On June 29, 2026, The Master Cutter aired 49 TV Ads on GMA, 20 TV Ads on GTV, 1 TV Ad on Heart of Asia, and 1 TV Ad on I Heart Movies, for a total of 71 TV Ads, combined across four GMA Network channels during all of the four commercial gaps aired on each channel. Each commercial gap during The Master Cutter on the GMA Network channel airs different TV commercials from various advertisers.

For Coco Martin’s Sigabo, it aired 50 TV Ads on Kapamilya Channel, 31 TV Ads on A2Z, and 34 TV Ads on ALLTV2 and TV5. Each commercial gap among the three during Coco Martin’s Sigabo on each channel airs the same TV commercials from various advertisers, with online gambling ads being shown over ALLTV2 and TV5, and more ads airing on the Kapamilya Channel after that.

When The Master Cutter had a 10.9% TV Rating on July 6, 2026, the DRPS PHCA TV Ad Listings show that it aired 40 TV Ads on GMA, 32 TV Ads on GTV, and 1 TV Ad on Heart of Asia, with no TV Ads aired on I Heart Movies. Combining these numbers from those four channels would result to 73 TV Ads. Coco Martin’s Sigabo, however, aired 62 TV Ads on Kapamilya Channel, 43 TV Ads on A2Z, and 46 TV Ads on ALLTV2 and TV5.
