What’s going on about a noontime show?

MTRCB summons It’s Showtime following complaints involving “Memerimar” comedy skit, to file a JPP post-hearing
Following the statement issued by the Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime on July 25, 2026, regarding an apology from one of its presenters, Vice Ganda, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has called out the producers behind the noontime show over multiple complaints from an episode aired a day earlier (July 24, 2026), which stated that it “allegedly contained inappropriate scenes and racially insensitive and colorist remarks”.
In a two-page notice to appear, the board said it received numerous complaints from concerned citizens about the episode and Meme Vice’s actions. The notice, signed by the board’s chair and CEO Lala Sotto and the authority of the MTRCB board, directed respondents ABS-CBN Corporation (ABS-CBN, PSE: ABS) and GMA Network, Inc. (GMA-7, PSE: GMA7) through their duly authorized representatives and/or counsel, to appear before the Hearing and Adjudication Committee at the board’s headquarters by tomorrow, July 29, 2026, at 10:30 (Philippine Standard Time, UTC+8).
The hearing involves the complaints the show has received from the MTRCB, including the incident involved in this, which was a skit from “Memerimar”, a comedic parody of Meme Vice, referring to Vice Ganda, and Marimar (a 1994 Mexican television series headlined by Thalia, broadcast on Las Estrellas, a television network of Televisa), from the segment “Laro Laro Pick”.
The concerns called out by the citizens involved Meme Vice’s alleged racist and colorist remarks and a lugaw scene featuring him and Ion Perez. A day after the controversial scene was broadcast on July 24, 2026, before the noontime show was called off, Meme Vice apologized to the public for the jokes they made.
According to It’s Showtime, Nakarating po sa aming kaalaman na may mga Madlang People po na hindi nagustuhan o na-offend sa ilan sa aming jokes o biruan dito sa It’s Showtime pati na rin sa ginagawa namin sa Memerimar.
They found the jokes offensive or insensitive; the last thing we want is to displease you o hindi mapasaya ang aming Madlang People. Kaya naman ina-acknowledge namin ang inyong sentimyento at humihingi po kami ng paumanhin sa inyo, and we will try to do better, It’s Showtime added to its apology statement.
In its notice to appear, as the MTRCB added in its statement, they said that these allegations raised concerns as to whether the noontime show complied with Section 3(c) of the Presidential Decree â„–1986 (the MTRCB Charter), which disallows the exhibition of TV programs that are contrary to law, good customs, public order, public morals, or are otherwise objectionable.
The representatives involved in the concerned noontime show should submit, on or before the scheduled hearing, an original copy of the proof of authority to represent the respondents. If the respondents do not appear at the scheduled hearing, it shall be considered a waiver of their right to present evidence, and the matter shall be decided based on records available with the board, the MTRCB added in its statement.
And on July 29, 2026, following a convened hearing between the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) and the representatives and legal counsels of the ABS-CBN Studios noontime variety show It’s Showtime, including ABS-CBN, GMA, Zoe Broadcasting Network, Inc. (A2Z), and Advanced Media Broadcasting System (ALLTV2), which tackled the issues from the show’s “Memerimar” skit as seen in the Laro Laro Pick segment broadcast on July 24, 2026, the board issued an order directing them to file a verified Joint Position Paper (JPP) within at least seven (7) calendar days in line of their rules and procedures.
The parties were allowed to be heard regarding issues stemming from the “Memerimar” skit. As part of due process, the MTRCB listened to the explanations presented and reiterated its mandate under the MTRCB Charter or the Presidential Decree â„– 1986 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) to ensure that all television programs comply with relevant broadcast standards, and its TV ratings, G (General Patronage), PG (Parental Guidance), and SPG (Strong Parental Guidance).
Following the hearing, the Hearing and Adjudication Committee (HAC) team, Committee Chair Board Member Atty. Ricardo “Jojo” M. Salomon Jr., and Committee and Board Members Atty. Pedro Cesar Gabriel “Chet” A. Solidum and BM Wilma V. Galvante, ordered the respondents to file a verified JPP within the next seven days from the receipt of the order.
The committee likewise directed them to submit a Joint Undertaking (JU) that outlines concrete measures to strengthen and comply with the standards, including those related to live, improvised, and comedy segments. To avoid further violating its rules and regulations, MTRCB also instructed the respondents to designate an On-Air Compliance Officer (OACO) responsible for monitoring live broadcasts and immediately reporting to the board if needed.
To date, the “Memerimar” skit case remains pending, and the board may soon decide based on its evaluation of the parties’ submissions and the evidence on record, in accordance with applicable laws, rules, due process, and the parties’ submissions related to the case. The board also advised the public to avoid making any further statements that may prejudge their final dispositions.
What’s also happening in Philippine Primetime TV?

Someone Someday dominates Netflix charts in PH, SG, and MY; Sigabo also dominated on iWant
About twelve hours after the release of ABS-CBN Studios and Dreamscape Entertainment’s latest Kathryn Bernardo and James Reid-headlined primetime drama, Someone Someday, via Netflix on July 24, 2026, it debuted and landed in the number one spot on Netflix Philippines’ most-watched shows. The series also dominated the streaming platform’s top 10 most-watched shows in Singapore and Malaysia.
Apart from its opening achievement on Netflix, the series’ on-air premiere yesterday (July 27, 2026) also drew 334,170 concurrent online viewers on Kapamilya Online Live via the ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube Channel.

Apart from Someone Someday, another ABS-CBN Studios-Dreamscape Entertainment-produced primetime drama has also landed at the top spot of the most-watched shows on iWant; this time, it was Coco Martin’s Sigabo, co-produced with CCM Film Productions.
The action-romance series headlined by the “King of Action of our Generation” Coco Martin and “Prime Actress” Julia Montes maintained its lead among the top 10 shows on iWant as the story intensifies with his personal mission to hunt down Edu Manzano’s character, who is behind the tragedy that destroyed their family.
Despite earlier controversies involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in one of the episodes of the primetime drama, it continued to draw more than three hundred thousand concurrent online viewers on Kapamilya Online Live via the ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube channel. As of July 28, 2026, Coco Martin’s Sigabo had achieved 331,434 concurrent online viewers on the said live streaming platform.
Driven by his own determination and immense love for his father, Rudy (Joey Marquez), Gabo (Coco Martin) swore that he would do everything in his power to find Ricardo (Edu), Rudy’s former pal, who got revenge on him and had a hand in the tragic death of Gabo’s mother.
As seen in the recent episode, Gabo’s painful childhood was revealed, showing how a young Rudy instantly became wealthy after discovering an abundant treasure of gold. However, all of his riches were stolen from him by Ricard after he felt that Rudy betrayed him.
Zanjoe Marudo, who portrayed Young Rudy in the backstory, shared how thrilled he is to recognize the “King of Action of our Generation” and his strong connection with Filipino viewers, as well as the overwhelming support they continue to show for his past TV series.
Furthermore, viewers may look forward to more hard-hitting action scenes in the coming episodes of Coco Martin’s Sigabo, as Gabo pursues his next missions, and NCIA agent Sam (Julia Montes) figures in an intense shootout against the powerful Zafra family.
Apart from iWant and Kapamilya Online Live, Coco Martin’s Sigabo is also seen on-air via Kapamilya Channel, ALLTV2, A2Z, TV5, and TFC (for Kapamilyas subscribed to pay TV, IPTV, or via YouTube TV) on weeknights at 20:00.
